Stroke in Patients with COVID-19 Infection in a Tertiary Hospital: A Retrospective Study

Introduction. Stroke can be a complication and/or presenting sign of COVID-19 infection. Although there is growing evidence on stroke in infection, only few these studies were done Asia and very scarce the local setting. Objective. This study aimed to characterize clinical profile, management, functional outcome patients with acute Methods. was single-center retrospective from March 30 October 20, 2020. The demographic characteristics, respiratory symptoms, risk factors, neuroimaging, ancillary test results, treatment given, obtained through review medical records. Computation mean, standard deviation, median, interquartile range, total count, percentage for data analysis. Results. Out 2,018 41 (2%) developed an stroke. mean age 59.05 ± 14.04 years. Majority men (n=24, 59%). Ischemic (n=28, 68%) most common anterior circulation commonly involved (n=21, 72%). factors hypertension (n=31, n=76%), cigarette smoking (n=18, 44%), dyslipidemia (n=16, 39%), ethanol use 39%). Among those 42% had mild infection 29% critical disease. inflammatory markers elevated patients. Upon discharge, 83% poor (mRS 3–6). overall mortality rate high 59%) pulmonary cause as death. Conclusion. type infected COVID-19. hypertension, dyslipidemia, smoking, use, diabetes mellitus. generally high. More are needed that compare subsets control group, including longer follow up.
